We asked you to show us your meat — and did you ever. Last week for July 4th, we got dozens and dozens of photos from folks who said “Not On My Grill!” and shared shots of meat raised without antibiotics they used in their holiday grilling adventures. Lots of others folks wrote in (sans photo) to express their support for the effort and to make the pledge for their own grilling. And let’s not forget the vegetarians! We heard from lots who wrote to tell us about their plans for meatless cooking over the weekend – a healthy choice, to be sure.

Tim says: “Local Grassfed, Antibiotic/ Hormone free Bison burger. Everything else: the farmers market bread, onion, tomato & cheddar cheese is Organic … to the Ketchup & Mustard”
Sylvia shows us her Applegate hot dogs. All of Applegate’s products come from animals raised without antibiotics.
Angela says: “4th of July with no hormones or antibiotics, just pure grass fed beef. Hot dogs were organic also. Yeah! Delicious!” (Bonus points on that festive tablescape!)
Carl’s cooking up some no-antibiotics buffalo burgers from Trader Joe’s.
Niels told us: “Niman Ranch pork chops and Bell and Evans chicken both certified free of hormones and antibiotics and delicious.”
Steve got the gold star – he even sent us a VIDEO of these ribs in the smoker! He said: “Luckily the skies over Northern NJ cleared in time for me to get 5 hours of smoke on these locally raised baby backs!”
Awards for adventurous grilling go to:
….Fred, who said: “We do a pig roast every year. This year we tracked down a more humanely raised and hormone & antibiotic free candidate. 88 lbs of cracklin’ deliciousness!”
… and to these intrepid grillers who said: “Hot coals on a rainy night makes for some tasty good eats!”

Volunteers with the Bucks County Opportunity Council pick up thousands of pounds of donated meat from Applegate and take it to local food pantries for distribution to those in need. “The money we saved by not having to buy meats, a very expensive product for food pantries to try to provide, will now be able to go to meet other pressing needs. It’s going to be a good holiday for our folks.” A high-five to these awesome volunteers, and to Applegate!
And last – but certainly not least – the dedicated folks out there raising their own animals who took the time to write and tell us how they do things on their farms:
Bob from Vermont wrote: “We raise our own meat (beef, chicken and pork) on our organic farm. No antibiotics here.”
Lee sent a picture of porterhouse steaks from hormone free, antibiotic free, all-grass fed and finished, 2-year old black Angus steers, noting: “The steers represent the third generation of hormone free, antibiotic free all-grass beef steers I produced and raised on organic pasture from similarly raised dams and sires. Just as nature intended.”
… and this ‘farmer selfie’ from David, owner of Deep Creek Ranch in Florida. Not on my grill? He says, “And, not from our Ranch! Healthy cattle raised without synthetic hormones and antibiotics, on good forage, harvested fresh from the pasture and delivered right to the consumer. We won’t sell to anyone more than 100 miles from where we raise ‘em.”
